Seven Limerick Songs
Complete Cycle for High Voice and Piano. In a style somewhere between Ives and PDQ Bach, the cycle SEVEN LIMERICK SONGS employs good-natured parody of several genres (waltz, tango, tarantella, bel canto aria, march, hymnody, and verbunkos) and composers (Poulenc, Schumann, Rossini, Sousa, Bach, Saint-Saëns, Beethoven, Liszt, and Ravel) as a vehicle for vocal settings of original limericks by the composer. Individual song titles include: Herm [i.e., her + him], The Young Man from Denver, The Girl from Duchesne: Fantasy (or Lack Thereof) on a Theme of Schumann, Tarantella per i parenti lontani/Tarantella for Distant Relatives [Italian lyrics by the composer], The Man from Salt Lake City, The Girl from Pocatello, The Woman from Poughkeepsie. Most of the individual songs are quite short as a result of the brevity of the limerick form. As each song is a self-contained vignette, the cycle lends itself equally well to performance in its entirety, excerpting smaller groups, or singling out individual songs as encores (especially #4 and #7). Also available in keys for medium high voice.

Sir Henry Bishop: Lo! Hear The Gentle Lark (Voice/Piano)
The sheet music for Lo! Here The Gentle Lark For Soprano And Flute With Piano Accompaniment uses words from Shakespeares Comedy of Errors as its lyric and is a perfect example of late Georgian English song for the stage. Lo! Here the Gentle Lark is a Coloratura aria with virtuoso Flute and Piano accompaniment whose flourishes, cadenzas, trills and Vocalise passages create much musical excitement. A high duet between Flute and Soprano near the end is particularly flamboyant and thrilling. Henry R. Bishop was a composer active throughout the early 19th century, writing operas, though in the old style that was more akin to todays musical theatre than to through-sung Continental opera, as well as many songs for theatrical performances and reworkings of other composers creations. One of Britains most famous composers of his time, he was the first musician ever to be knighted, by Queen Victoria in 1842 – and has since fallen, mostly, into obscurity.

The Discontented Housewife - (Short Comedy Opera)
A farcical opera in one ridiculously short act Piano Vocal Score. Music and Libretto by James Nathaniel Holland. Twenty some odd years before the Desperate Housewives phenomenon there was a discontented housewife named Margaret. Sung here by Colleen McGrath and Dennis Jesse as her husband Harold. Synopsis: This is the interesting story of Margaret. So begins the screwball one-act chamber opera about an emotionally abused housewife, and the extent she goes to change the situation life has dealt her. Not even the pianist is allowed to sit by and idly accompany Margaret's journey into self-empowerment. Is it a battle between the sexes? Certainly not. It's more like power, domination and the pure thrill of ordering others around. ARTISTS NEEDED: Soprano (Coloratura) - Margaret, Lyric Baritone - Harold. ORCHESTRATION: Fl, Bb Clarinet, Horn, Piano, Strings Great vehicle for young artists. Duration: 30'
Website: James Nathaniel Holland

Toner Fra Filmen (1932-2002) (MLC)
"Tunes from the movie" - Musical, melodrama, farce and comedy - well known film genres have through the last 70 years produced film songs, that deserve to be remembered, played and sung. Many of which have become beloved evergreens. Toner fra filmen contains 100 songs that explain why. "Tunes from the movie" - Toner fra filmen is the first Danish song book, that concentrates on songs written directly to the film medium - from 1932 until 2002. From swing music to a sailor's waltz, from rock'n'roll to rap music, and the publication contains 100 compositions and lyrics and with that the answer to why a specific film song book is relevant. The answer is quality and diversity. Toner fra filmen is a song book that is supposed to strengthen the joy of singing and the memory of everyone interested in songs and films. Predictable catchy tunes by eg. Sven Gyldmark standing side by side with surprises that have almost been forgotten by most but deserve a renaissance. Toner fra filmen is released now as the quality in the national film production makes people walk away from the television and into the darkness of the movie theatre to laugh and cry. Back at the television screen we enjoy the old Danish movies that make us wish to refresh the film songs. Most of us seldomly remember more than the refrain, and then the need to look at the score arises. The songs chosen to Toner fra filmen has of course been an integrated part of the movies' set up, but they can manage on their own. There are a lot of love songs, but there are also songs for every taste and temperament, nice as well as sexy, short, long, poetic etc etc. The book makes you want to sing and play and is at the same time a piece of Danish cultural history.
