  • Open Mic UK 2009.. Enter now to be the UK's best on the mic!

    Open Mic UK; the national talent competition to search for the UK's best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres. The competition offers the competitors the opportunity to perform live in front of large audiences, generating media attention and exposure.

    The competition will be going up and down the UK and coming to a city or town near you to discover acts with the potential to become the next Leona Lewis, Lemar or James Blunt! Competing for the chance to win from the £25,000 in prizes; the winning act will have the opportunity to win a recording contact to release their single.

    Expose your talent - whatever genre it may be. The latter stages of the competition provides artists with the opportunity to impress judges and many guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry.

    The competition is divided into age categories; Under 16, 16-23 and 23 and over. All types of singers, vocal performers, groups and acoustic singer/songwriters are invited to enter Open Mic UK; the competition seeks to discover an act that has the ability to become a professional recording artist.   • Institute of Contemporary Music Performance La 2008 launches Vocal Scholarships

    The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance is delighted to announce the launch of its 2008 vocal scholarships programme.

    The lucky winner will receive a free place, worth £4,950, on the Institute's famous Higher Diploma course starting in October 2008, whilst the runner-up will receive a £2,500 award for study on the same programme. Applications are invited from students both from the UK and internationally.

    The Higher Diploma is a specialist one-year full-time course, developed by the Institute to train and develop students of guitar, bass, drums and vocals for a career in the music industry. It was the first full-time course of its kind ever developed in the UK and achieving a place on the course continues to be an aspirational goal for young vocalists and musicians. Institute alumni can be found throughout today's music industry, working with artists of the calibre of Babyshambles, Lemar, Radiohead, Eric Clapton, Keene and KT Tunstall.

    This vocal scholarship is part of the annual programme of Institute scholarship awards and represents a fantastic opportunity for deserving students to access world class training and tuition at one of the world's leading schools of contemporary music.   • Live & Unsigned

    Under 18 singers and bands wanted for the Live and Unsigned music competition.

    Live & Unsigned has proudly grown from a regional competition for the South coast into a National Competition and is the largest talent contest outside TV's X-Factor. 2007 was the competitions third year with a rapid growth that has seen over 10,000 applications enter the competition for 2007. Performers from all over the UK have the chance to compete and become the UK's best Live and Unsigned acts.

    About Live and Unsigned

    The Live & Unsigned event is not only a competition to find talent, but it also gives bands, groups, Singer/songwriters and singers alike the opportunity to organise and perform as a live act in front of people established within the music industry. The big difference with this competition is that all the Contestants taking part are encouraged to be individual and original which potentially would involve performing their own genre, style, play their own instruments and perform their own song.

    The competition is also not a profit orientated project with all revenue being reinvested back into the competition and contestants. The designated charity for 2007 is Crimestoppers which the competition has worked in partnership with including a tour to over 20,000 youngsters around the South of England. This has taken place at the Crimestoppers SNAP (Say no and phone) events giving acts and youngsters alike the opportunity to get involved with something positive and purposeful.

  • X Factor Auditions
    The X Factor Audition line is now open. If you haven't seen the TV ADs, here's the gen.

    Open Auditions on a first come first served basis will be held for groups and solos over the age of 16. Applications are now being taken for the third series of The X Factor. To audition in a city near you, just click on the X Factor title to visit the site and fill in the application form.

    Applicants must bring along proof of Identity and age (passport, driving licence or birth certificate with a national insurance card) and under 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent or adult or they will NOT be seen. Be prepared to sing at least one song Accapella. (unaccompanied - without backing tracks, or musical instruments), so make sure its a song you know well and which you can do justice to!

    Viewers will see the program aired next September, needless to say Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne will be judging the contestants.

  • Talent Show needs kids aged 8-12!
    MAKERS OF "FAME ACADEMY" NEED TALENTED KIDS FOR NEW PRIME TIME TV SHOW!

    To qualify, children need to be between 8 and 12 years old in September 2005. Parents need to send us a VHS of their child performing and telling us a little bit about themselves. (Max 3 mins.) Finally the parent should end the tape by explaining why their child should be selected for the project.

    All VHS’s should be sent with a letter including the child’s full name, address, age and all contact details to the PO Box Address.

    Please include a recent photograph of the child. VHS tapes cannot be returned. This opportunity is not open to anyone in full time Theatre School training.

  • Glastonbury Festival's Emerging Talent Competition Glastonbury Festival in association with Q magazine is pleased to announce the return of the Emerging Talent Competition for 2009 Open to musicians not signed to a major label, based in the UK and Ireland, and is the best way to get your music listened to by many of the stage and area programmers throughout the Festival. Glastonbury has been running a competition to find the greatest Emerging Talent for the last four Festivals. Previous competitions have brought bands like The Subways, Bimbo Jones and Scouting For Girls to Festival prominence.

  • The City Showcase
    Festival of emerging talent returns to London in September to play host to a week of London's most exciting new music. Demos are currently being accepted for consideration by the 'Music week' Team and Dotmusic.

    The festival, supported by the Mayor of London and Dave Stewart, offers a unique opportunity for new bands to be heard by the industry and public alike and to benefit from the publicity that will surround the event. Venues for the showcase range from West end shops and Boutiques, to well respected live music evening venues. Taking place between September 22 - 26 with performances in venues on London's Kings Road, Oxford Street, Charing Cross Road, Regent Street and Bond Street, City Showcase is a completely free event although you will need tickets for the evening gigs at established venues.

  • Fame Academy
    The makers of Fame Academy are offering a Bursary to reward talented young musicians who could advance their musical career with either an instrument or educational award. There will be over 400 instrument and equipment awards worth up to £1,200 per person (for applicants aged 11-15) and at least five educational bursaries (for 16-30). Applications for instruments and equipment will open on Monday 30th June and close on Saturday 19th July. The first awards will be made in October 2003.   • Urban FLAVA To all vocal artist Soul, RnB & Jazz

    Urban FLAVA was founded in 2001 our ethos has prided itself in promoting a vast quantity of urban music acts awaiting exposure in the UK. Jaguar founder of Urban Flava continues to be a firm advocate for giving unheard voices a much needed platform, There's a staggering amount of rich home grown talent in the UK that deservedly need the same adulation many of our international artists have received.

    In 2002 we showcased 18 gigs with over 15 acts in soul, rnb, jazz and hiphop the most memorable performances came from idle, 35 above and Love Jones at Bar Lorca
    In 2003 we are looking to push all boundaries with bigger venues and more artists appearing on the showcases. They is much demand for live music in London and Urban Flava aims to be one of the mean players in promoting live music.   • CBBC Karaoke Talent Competitions - BBC Saturday Morning Show

    They regularly run competitions for young singers and musicians so watch the show or visit the site for latest developments. The finalist get to meet a famous pop star.

  • UNICEF The United Nations Childrens Fund encourages groups, schools, organisations and companies to help raise funds by a variety of methods, one of which is by running Talent Competitions and Music Events.   To find out what is going on in your area visit the site.


  • Ballinasloe Horse Fair Usually held in October this event boasts local Singing/Talent Competitions in every pub, street theatre and free entertainment.   Even if you don't qualify to take part it sounds like good fun!


  • BBC Young Musicians Competiton Entry requirements and application forms are available here, however its already too late to enter for the 2001 and 2002 competitions so look out for details on the year 2003 & good luck!


  • BBC Talent New Voices are sought for the BBC Local Radio competition, so if you have a burning interest to talk about or inventive view on local festivals and events you can send in your 5 minute audio cassette or mini-disc for entry into the competition.   Four contracts are up for grabs to people who have no prior experience in radio broadcasting and successful entrants will get the opportunity to contribute to a broadcast programme on their local BBC radio station.   The four winners will be offered a weekly slot at their local station for six months.


  • Fenland Talent Competition Wisbech - Adult Heats for sixteen and over in partnership with X-CEL FM.
    The annual chance to strut your stuff, whether it's comedy, music, juggling, dancing or any other form of legal entertainment. Entry forms can be obtained from X-CEL FM or from either venue. Entry to the competitions is open to individuals, duos, groups and bands and it is free. The final for the Adult Competition will be at the Angles Theatre on Saturday 22nd September and the overall winners in both competitions receive air-time on X-CEL FM, stardom in the Winners' Own Show, to be scheduled at a later date, as their prize.
