IN HER OWN WORDS, FEMALE ARTIST SEARCH
Prepared by Beattie Communications 16/05/06

Angelic Music is the UK's first Record and Publishing Music label to specialise in female singer-songwriters and the label has world's first ever all-female singer-songwriter competition. Set up in response to the homogeneity of the pop industry, this global competition will seek out artists with talent and individuality, rather than those who fit the build of a stereotypical pop princess. Angelic Music's mission is to find those with raw talent and passion and give them support and guidance to break through and influence the ears of music lovers everywhere. By associating themselves with Angelic, singer-songwriters will become part of the ever-increasing network of music professionals already associated with the label. They will also be helping the industry to get one step closer to removing the constraints of the pop mould.

BACKGROUND

Angelic Music, the UK's newest record label, is the brainchild of Janis Haves and is the UK's first recording and publishing company for female singer/songwriters, with a mission to foster female talent within the music industry.

Janis Haves, a well know singer songwriter started Angelic Music specialising in female singer-songwriters. Angelic Music's mission is to support and foster female talent in all its shapes and sizes. As part of this mission, Angelic is holding a competition to find a brand new artist.

The global competition is open to all female singer/songwriters and costs £15 to enter up to three songs in English. Entry forms can be found on the Angelic website (www.angelicmusic.co.uk).

The winning song will be professionally recorded, produced and promoted. The winner will be invited to perform at the label launch party in London later this year and be the 'lead off' single for the Angelic compilation album to be released a few months later.

Angelic Music will also provide a second prize.

The 2nd placed song will be included on the compilation CD, and the writer will also receive a single song publishing deal and membership to Songlink International.

Katie Melua and Janis Ian, two high profile, highly respected female singers-songwriters, will give their support to the competition and add tracks onto the compilation CD. The album will also have a number of other prominent female singer songwriters contributing; Juliet Turner, Karine Polwart, Amy Wadge, Angie Palmer, Amy Rigby, Janis Haves, Liz Simcock and Tracy Grammer.

The competition is also supported by the British Record Industry's Trade Association (BPI).

The judges are all prestigious members of the music industry. They are:
" Annette Barret - Reverb 2 Publishing (ex-Warran Chappel)
" Pam Sheyne (Hit songwriter - 'Genie in a bottle' for Christina Aguilera and tutor on Channel 4's Fame Academy)
" David Stark (Editor/publisher of SongLink International)
" Meg Nicholas ( British Academy of Music and Media Board)
" Kim Appleby (Mel and Kim) 5 times in the chair for contempory music section - Ivor Novello Awards

10% of the proceeds from the compilation CD and the competition are to be donated to the charity, Breast Cancer Haven.

Angelic Music is also in talks with several UK festival organisers about an "Angelic Roadshow". They hope to have an Angelic stage at each event on which both local and Angelic artists will perform. As well as boosting publicity for the competition winner, the roadshow will give Angelic Music the opportunity to seek out more talented individuals.

MECHANICS

" Finalists will then be judged in the Grand final
